What does animal cruelty actually mean and what can I do about it?

Animal cruelty can take many forms, not just intentional acts of violence. It includes animal neglect, psychological harm in the form of torment, terror and distress. It is also the failure to provide for the welfare of an animal under one's control.

Here are just a few:

• torturing or beating an animal

• confining or transporting an animal in a way that is inappropriate for its welfare

• killing an animal in an inhumane manner

• failing to provide appropriate or adequate food or water for an animal

• failing to provide appropriate treatment for disease or injury

• failing to provide appropriate living conditions

Animal cruelty can present is myriad of different ways, but when should it be reported?

The simple answer is ALWAYS.

If you feel an animal is being mistreated, if you have seen that they are not living in an adequate environment or have been physically or psychologically abused, it is up to you to report this on behalf on the animal.
